Are you an earlier career researcher interested in attending ECSCW 2024 but facing difficulties due to scarcity of travel resources?
EUSSET is keen to support young members of its community to participate in its events and, having that in mind, has set aside some funding for travel support. You can apply for it and, if your application is successful, you will be (partially) reimbursed after the conference, upon presentation of the required material.
Eligibility
In order to apply for the EUSSET Early Career Travel Support, you must fulfill the following requirements:
- Be currently enrolled in a PhD programme or have defended your PhD within the previous 3 years.
- Be a paying member of EUSSET.
- Have one of the following motivations to attend the conference:
- Present your research in one of the conference venues (i.e., the main programme, one of the conference workshops, the posters and demo session, or doctoral colloquium).
- Serve as a student volunteer.
Maximum support
Applicants can ask for a maximum of 1,000€ of travel support for attending ECSCW 2024.
Selection criteria
Applicants will be selected according to the following criteria:
- Stage on career: preference will be given to PhD scholars somewhere between the second and last year of their PhD research.
- Location: preference will be given to scholars from the global south
- Type of participation: the following priority list will be followed, and multiple participation will be taken into consideration:
- Paper on the main programme (journal, note, or exploratory paper)
- Participation on the Doctoral Colloquium
- Participation on Workshops
- Participation on the Poster and Demo Session
- Previous support: preference will be given to applicants who have not received any funding from EUSSET before.
- Quality of the cover letter: preference will be given to participants who provide stronger motivations for applying.
Submission process
Please send your application to coreteam@eusset.eu by the deadline.
Your application must be a single PDF file containing the following elements:
- A cover letter clearly stating:
- How you comply with the eligibility criteria.
- Why you need support – e.g., no other funding options available.
- How you will benefit from the travel.
- A cost estimation for the trip, organised by the following expense categories:
- Transportation
- Accommodation
Deadlines
Please submit your application by noon CEST of the 21st of May 2024.
Application results will be sent out on the 28th of May 2024, 17h00 CEST.
Reimbursement process
After the conference, applicants contemplated must submit the following material:
- Receipts for transportation and accommodation expenses, properly annotated – i.e., you will have to specify the expenses for the receipt, e.g. train ticket to the airport, flight tickets, etc.
- Material for a blog post on the EUSSET website, including:
- A short text entry (300 – 500 words) with feedback on their experience in the conference (mandatory).
- Pictures or any other media that could be used in the post (optional).
The material should be sent to coreteam@eusset.eu as a ZIP file, as soon as possible. If the file cannot be sent over email, the candidate should provide a link from where the file can be downloaded.
Important notes:
- Please notice that food expenses will not be reimbursed.
- The maximum amount will not exceed the amount pre-approved by EUSSET, which will be informed upon notification of successful application.
- Needless to say, reimbursement will not be conditional to a blog post reporting on positive experience. We will welcome critical blog posts and will learn from them to try to improve future experiences. However, the reimbursement will only be processed if the blog post material is provided.
- Reimbursement will be processed as soon as the material is submitted and verified by the EUSSET Core Team.
